A Simple and Quick Quarantine Makeup Look

During these hard times, it can be difficult to feel like your normal self. Something that has helped me feel better about myself and more motivated lately, has been doing a cute natural makeup look. Taking these extra steps every day to pamper myself has made me feel like my normal self again and when we feel good about our exterior appearances it helps us feel better on the inside as well, allowing our days to become more productive.

I always tend to go for a more natural look when it comes to makeup, but especially now when I have nowhere to go I feel the best makeup look is the most subtle but also effective one.

Here are my 10 easy steps to achieving this look:

1) Primer

For my go-to look, I always start with a Hydrating primer to create the perfect base for my look. In this video, I am using Too Faced’s “Hangover Replenishing Face Primer” which you can find here.

2) Foundation

I then go on to my foundation, for my more natural looks I like to use a tinted moisturizer. Here I am using Dr.Jarts Premium Beauty Balm, which you can find here. I love this tinted moisturizer not only because it gives me a beautiful glowy finish, but it also has SPF to protect and keep your skin beautiful during the summer. It is also super lightweight which is perfect for a laid-back day.

3) Concealer

After foundation, I go in with a high coverage concealer to cover my eye bags and also just add a little more coverage to my overall face. Here I am using Tarte’s Shape Tape Concealer, my ultimate favorite concealer. I haven’t stopped using this since I first tried it in 2016. You can find it here.

4) Bronzer

Next comes Bronzer, my favorite part! I love a good bronzed and glowy look which makes the bronzer I use so important! Currently, I am obsessed with Benefit’s Hoola Matte Bronzer, which you can find here.

5) Blush

After bronzer, I go in with some blush to add some more color to my face and brighten up the whole look. I like a good amount of blush because I just really love the way it looks and thinks it gives that cute natural rosy cheeks vibe. In this video I’m using Urban Decays blush Fetish, a similar one can be found here.

6) Eye Makeup

After completing all the base face makeup I move onto my eye makeup! For a while now I’ve loved to use my bronzer on my eyes as well. I just take a little bit of bronzer and brush it over my crease to add a little depth to my eyes. That’s it! Simple but effective.

7) Brows

Next, I take my Glossier Boy Brow gel and just give my eyebrows a little fluff to get that feathery look that is super hot and trending right now. You can find this here.

8) Mascara

After the eyebrows, I take my favorite mascara and give a nice coating to my eyelashes. Currently, I’m loving Too Faced’s Damn Girl, which you can find here.

9) Lip Liner

Last but not least is applying some lip liner and gloss to complete the whole look! I love to use a little lip liner to make my lips look somewhat fuller and plumper. Currently, I’m using the NYX Lipliner in shade London, which you can find here.

10) Gloss

After my lip liner, I apply my favorite lip gloss on top and I’m ready to go! Currently, my favorite gloss is Winky Luxe’s lip oil, you can find it here.

I hope you guys enjoyed this super easy and natural bronzed and glowy look! Sometimes little things like slapping some makeup on your face can make the biggest difference in your mood!

FINDING THE PERFECT PAIR OF JEANS FOR YOUR BODY TYPE

Jeans are always the hardest thing for me to shop for. I always find myself struggling to find the perfect jean that highlights the best of part of me while still hiding the parts I don’t like so much. After years of searching and lots of trial and error I’ve been able to narrow it down, and figure out the criteria for not only my body type but also others! Once you know what style and cut flatters your body type, shopping for jeans will become a much less overwhelming experience and might even become something you enjoy!

Take a look at some of my favorite tips below to help aid you on your search for the perfect pair of jeans!

Hourglass Shaped Figure: Me

Having an hourglass figure and curvier shape the style of my jeans drastically affects the way my body appears and my confidence. Over the years I’ve found that all of my jeans must be:

  1. Highwaisted- This is critical for the curvier girl because it sinches your waist and accentuates your curves in all the right ways
  2. Either a straight leg or mom jean cut. I’ve found that curvier girls need to stay away from skinny jeans because it’s just not as flattering as a style that is slim fitting rather than skin-tight. Slim fitting jeans such as straight leg and mom are tight in all the right places.
  3. Hourglass figures also look great in stretchy denim because it holds your stomach in while also creating contoured lines.
  4. This being said, I personally prefer a real denim jean with no stretch because I feel it appears classier and more pulled together.

  5. The fifth pair of jeans is from 7 FOR ALL MEN KIND and a similar one is linked here.

Apple-Shaped Figure:

For an apple-shaped figure choosing the right style of jeans centers around avoiding highlighting the middle section.

  1. Go for a mid-rise jean rather than a high-waisted jean. A mid-rise will help to hide your midsection and accentuate your figure.
  2. Skinny, bootcut, and straight leg jeans fit the apple shape the best. All of these jeans will emphasize your slim hips and hide your tummy area. Highlighting all your best features while hiding the ones you don’t like so much.
Pear-Shaped Figure:

For the pear-shaped girl, it’s all about elongating your curves and highlighting your shape. As pear-shaped girls are heavier on the bottom its all about pulling the attention upward.

  1. Stick to midrise or high rise jeans, these will highlight your waist and hit your hips at a better place than low rise jeans do.
  2. Bootcut and flare jeans are the best styles for the pear-shaped girl. The full shape at the bottom of both bootcut and flare jeans helps balance the pear-shaped body, providing volume at the bottom as well as the top.
Athletic/Rectangle Shaped Figure:

Athletic shaped girls want to choose a jean that may be able to create the allusion of some curves.

  1. Avoid high waisted jeans, and rather go for a mid or low rise jean. A jean that goes right across your hips will make your hips look a little wider and your waist smaller, giving the appearance of curves.
  2. Straight leg, boyfriend, and skinny jeans are best for the athletic shaped girl. For the athletic shape, you want to pick something that is tighter at the top and bigger at the bottom to create the allusion of curves. That being said, the athletic shaped girl also looks great in a good skinny jean.

Finding the perfect pair of jeans can sometimes feel impossible, trust me I’ve been there and I know. I’ve spent hours searching and searching for jeans that I would fall in love with, just to end up crying in some fitting room, but the problem was never with me or my body and it isn’t for you either. The problem is that you are just picking the wrong jeans to try on. The first step in finding the perfect pair of jeans is figuring out your body shape and working with what you have. I hope these tips can help you on your journey to finding your new favorite jeans!

PS: That being said, all bodies are different and its honestly hard to even categorize them into these four categories. Just remember that these categories are broad and you may fall somewhere in between so feel free to incorporate a few tips from here and there! At the end of the day its always about what makes you feel confident and happy in your own beautiful skin!

5 ESSENTIALS FOR EVERYBODY’S CLOSET

Today I’m going to be sharing some of my favorite essentials that are easy to incorporate into anyone’s closet. These 5 items are basic but are also critical items for your wardrobe.

1) A basic white t-shirt

This is the simplest item but also one of the most important! A basic white t-shirt can be the first layer for literally any outfit. When choosing a white T-shirt, I like to pick one that can be styled in numerous ways and is easy to layer. This one in this video is great because it’s easy to tie and mold into different outfits.

This white tee is from urban outfitters and a similar one is linked here.

2) A Moto jacket

Everyone needs the perfect little moto jacket to make any outfit look a little bit elevated. This is my go-to moto jacket that is a little bit more fashion-forward thanks to the suede material. I prefer suede material because I feel like it’s chicer and not too professional looking. That way I can choose whether or not to make the outfit more of a work based outfit or more of a fashion-based outfit.

This moto jacket is by the brand philosophy and here is a link to a similar one.

3) The perfect pair of jeans
Jeans are probably the hardest clothing item to shop for, but can easily make or break any outfit. I love a good pair of denim and wear denim on most occasions, making it essential to find the perfect pair. Currently, I’m obsessed with mom and straight leg jeans. Mom jeans and vintage straight leg jeans give a more elevated look to a simple outfit. I also prefer real denim over stretchy denim because it looks more expensive and polished. That being said I will be posting a post about finding the perfect pair of jeans for your body soon!

4) A black mini dress

Everyone needs the perfect little black dress in their wardrobe. I love this black dress because it is super flattering and highlights all the perfect spots while also being comfortable and functional. This dress is so easy to layer and alter to make it work for any occasion from work to nights out.

5) A denim jacket

The denim jacket is a style staple that everyone should own. There are so many different ways to wear a denim jacket from a casual brunch date to a night out! The denim jacket is a timeless classic and is always on-trend.

Learning To Love Myself : My Eating Disorder Story

Most of my High-school life was plagued with my struggle with an eating disorder. It shaped who I am today and the journey of overcoming it, is what has brought me here to tell my story.

As a child, I was heavily bullied for the way I looked and in high school, things didn’t change. I surrounded myself with toxic people who only fueled my complex relationship with food. Two of my closest friends at the time would constantly refer to me as a “whale” and make comments about my weight, I was only 130 pounds. It all started with these remarks. My relationship with my body and food was completely transformed into something destructive and terrifying. First, it was counting calories, something that seemed so harmless at the time but slowly became something disastrous. Every day I set a limit to how many calories I could eat, always restricting myself to under one thousand, and some days under five hundred. I became obsessed with what I put into my body. Scanning every food label cautiously and Googling the number of calories in almost everything I ate.

This endless counting of calories was only the beginning of my destructive relationship with food. Counting calories was no longer enough to satisfy me. I went days with eating little to nothing. Eating a cracker or the smallest piece of fruit made me feel disgusted with myself. I started to weigh myself three times a day; it became exhausting but thrilling at the same time. I thrived off of the act of losing weight and watching the number get lower and lower. I thought that once I reached a certain weight I would be happy with myself, but I never was.

After almost a year of being trapped in this obsession with food and weight, I looked in the mirror and couldn’t recognize myself anymore. I never smiled and my face looked ghostly and sunken in. I had been so caught up in the number on the scale that I forget what it meant to be healthy and happy. My life had begun to revolve around calories instead of happiness. I thought being skinny would make me happy, but it wasn’t. Instead of finding happiness I was slowly killing myself through starving. I didn’t understand that skinny doesn’t always equal healthy; for me, it was the complete opposite. I was depriving my body of the core nutrients it needed to survive and thrive and my body was becoming frail and weak. Walking up flights of stairs made me lose my breath, simple everyday tasks became difficult and draining. This obsession that started as something that gave me control was now what was spiraling me away from any form of control in my life.

The road to recovery was one of the hardest experiences of my life but was completely worth it. It took everything I had to defeat this illness that was haunting me for so long. I had to learn how to be okay with eating normal amounts of food again. I had to stop weighing myself three times a day and work towards ending my obsession with the three little numbers on a scale. I tore apart my journal that I recorded my calorie intake in, and learned to stop caring about how many calories I was consuming. There were days filled with happiness and hope and days where I thought everything was falling apart again. Recovery was long and grueling, but eventually, this challenge paid off. I started to gain weight and I was okay with it. I was becoming the healthier and happier version I had always dreamed of being. I was able to look in the mirror and smile at what I saw because I was learning to love myself in every shape and form. I never thought I would be able to do this without crying at the image I saw, but now I could and that is something I will cherish for the rest of my life.

Now almost 3 years after, I am 21 and filled with so much love for myself rather than hate. The voice in my head that used to tell me how disgusting and fat I was is still there and always will be, but now I know how to control it and ignore it. This illness is something that I will carry inside me for the rest of my life, but it will never control me like it used to. Self-love is something that means so much to me because I understand how challenging it can be to love yourself fully. This eating disorder, although gruesome has taught me the meaning of self-love and confidence. Through this newfound self-confidence, I was able to grow and find my passion for fashion. Clothes helped me feel beautiful and allowed me to showcase this new love I had for myself on the outside as well, and that has led me here today.

I hope that this glimpse into my journey to self-love can help somebody out there. Always remember that there is so much more to life than a number on a scale.

WELCOME TO CAIT’S CLOSET

coworkers and I at anthro

My name is Caitlin Reardon and I’ve created this blog to share my love for fashion with the world. Sometimes fashion can be intimidating when going in with a blind eye, so I’m here to show you how easy and fun it can be!

I started to develop my personal style when I began working at Anthropologie during my freshman year of college. The people and aesthetic that surrounds Anthropologie allowed me to develop my personal style and also molded a strong passion for not only the fun in fashion but the confidence that followed it. Finding my personal style transformed how I felt about myself and gave me confidence that I was unable to find before. Anthropologie also sparked my interest in helping others with styling and seeing how clothes can change people’s lives. The look on people’s faces after helping them find the perfect outfit was invigorating and made me crave more! My goal is to make this blog a space that promotes not only my love for fashion, but the importance of self-love and how fashion can help foster this.

I hope you’ll join me on this journey of self-discovery through fashion and self-love!
